Why Cooling Methods Need to Be Reconsidered Now

As CPU/GPU heat dissipation increases, conventional air cooling is reaching its limits. While liquid cooling is recommended, the hurdles—such as facility requirements and operating costs—make adoption difficult.

Challenges in Deploying Liquid-Cooled Servers

  • ① Building water infrastructure and ancillary facilities.
  • ②Requiring large-capacity, MW-scale utility contracts.
  • ③ Increased operating costs due to water cooling

CPU/GPU Cooler TDP and
Application Range

Standard models for CPUs support TDPs of 500–700 W, and GPU models can handle even higher TDPs of 700 W or more. They fill the gap in performance where conventional heat pipe heat sinks (up to around 500 W) cannot meet the requirement.

Siphorex operating principle

Sumitomo Precision Products' Siphorex is a self-circulating "two-phase thermosiphon cooler" (phase-change cooler) that efficiently transfers heat by utilizing the boiling and condensation of refrigerant. It maintains excellent air cooling performance and achieves stable cooling even for high-heat-generating CPUs/GPUs.

Internal structure

Internal structureInternal structure
  • ① The working fluid in the boiling section absorbs heat and boils.
  • ② The vaporized working fluid is cooled in the condensing section and returns to a liquid.
  • ③ The liquefied working fluid returns to the boiling section.
