- 1916
- Research and development of Duralumin under the company name Sumitomo Shindosho.
- 1925
- Began manufacture of materials for aircraft propeller blades.
- 1933
- Began manufacture of Hamilton-type metal propellers.
- 1935
- Sumitomo Shindo Kokan and Sumitomo Seikosho merged to form Sumitomo Metals Industries, Ltd.
- 1937
- Factory constructed to manufacture propellers.
- 1943
- Propeller manufacturing plant moved to present site (Amagasaki).
- 1945
- World War II ended and all production was stopped.
- 1953
- Propeller Department established; manufacture and repair of aircraft components resumed.
- 1954
- Technology developed for manufacture of heat exchangers by aluminum dip-brazing method.
- 1956
- Aero Products Division established.
Began manufacture of aircraft landing gears, hydraulic equipment, wooden rotor blades for helicopters, etc.
- 1959
- Began manufacture of hydraulic equipment for industrial applications.
- 1961
- Aero Products Division of Sumitomo Metals Industries, Ltd. became independent under the name Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd.
- 1963
- Began manufacture of hydraulic equipment for ships.
- 1964
- Began manufacture of large heat exchangers for cryogenic industrial applications.
- 1967
- Began manufacture of large propellers for patrol planes.
- 1969
- Began manufacture of LNG vaporizers.
- 1970
- Company stock listed on Tokyo and Osaka stock exchanges.
- 1974
- Began manufacture of ozone generators.
- 1975
- Establishment of New York Office.
Received approval for heat exchanger manufacture under ASME standards.
- 1977
- Construction of Shiga plant completed.
- 1986
- Entered vacuum equipment fields, opening new line of business for semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
- 1988
- Began development and manufacture of equipment for space applications.
- 1989
- New head office completed.
- 1993
- Construction of Wakayama Plant completed.
Developed Japan's largest ozonizers for waste water treatment and began manufacture.
- 1994
- Approval obtained under ISO 9001 for heat exchanger manufacture for cryogenic industrial applications.
- 1995
- Acquires Surface Technology Systems plc. of the U.K.
- 1996
- Water Technology Center opened.
- 1997
- Approval obtained under ISO 9001 for aircraft components and aircraft engine components.
- 1999
- Establishment of a joint venture with British Aerospace for manufacture and sales of motion sensors.
Approval obtained under ISO 14001 for Head office & Main plant.
- 2000
- Establishment of Sumitomo Precision USA, Inc.
- 2004
- Establishes Ningbo SPP Hydraulics Co.,Ltd. as a joint venture in China.
- 2005
- Establishes Crossbow Japan Co., Ltd., as a joint venture with Crossbow Technology of the U.S.A.
- 2007
- Acquires Primaxx Inc. of the U.S.A.
