Electric Gear Pump Research & Landing Gear Lifting System
Electric Hydraulic Actuator (EHA) Research

In the electric gear pump research & EHA research for landing gear lifting systems, we are conducting research to replace the engine-driven pumps (piston pumps) that are currently the main source of hydraulic pressure in aircraft with electric gear pumps based on gear pump technology, which is our specialty. The replacement with electric gear pumps will make it possible to supply hydraulic pressure on demand to flight control systems and landing systems that require hydraulic pressure, thereby contributing to energy efficiency of aircraft. Furthermore, the gear pump's simple structure contributes to weight reduction and high reliability, which in turn helps reduce aircraft operating costs.
We are also conducting research and development of an electro-hydraulic actuator (EHA: Electro-Hydrostatic Actuator) driven by a dedicated electric gear pump, and can design an EHA that is optimized to meet the unique leg lift and lowering requirements of the aircraft. Currently, we are conducting joint research and development of EHAs for leg lifting and lowering with Airbus with the aim of installing them in next-generation electric aircraft. The results of this work were obtained as a result of commissioned work by New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
