My job description
The accounting field is broadly divided into financial accounting and management accounting, and I am in charge of financial accounting. Specifically, this involves managing sales and accounts receivable, expense payments, bonuses, fixed assets, etc. Every day, I compile the figures submitted by each department and check whether they comply with various laws and company regulations, such as the invoice system, the Electronic Bookkeeping Act, and tax law. If there are any problems with the figures or information provided, I provide guidance. Our department's role is to manage the financial status of each department and create a sound management system. Having the finance department keep a close eye on cash flow makes it easier for the company to formulate future management strategies.
Job satisfaction
The figures compiled by the accounting department are used for management, so I find it fascinating that I can not only grasp the company's performance in real time, but also learn about management's thoughts on future strategies and challenges. For example, if the semiconductor division talks about purchasing large equipment, it is expected that the semiconductor division's performance will improve. I can see the company's future from the same perspective as the management. Another interesting aspect is being able to talk to people from all departments. Even within the same company, the semiconductor division and the defense division handle different products and the atmosphere among the employees is completely different. Understanding the characteristics of each department, talking to various employees, and guiding the entire company in the right direction is also a role of finance.
Difficulty of the job
The responsibility of finance is great, as closely monitoring the financial aspects of each department and ensuring compliance leads to sound management. Because we must have a wide range of knowledge, including financial accounting, law, and management, I approach my work with the mindset that every day is a learning experience. I struggled when I was a new employee, but recently I have become able to understand the management situation just by looking at each department's financial statements. For example, if I find a problem with budget allocation, I immediately report it to the manager of the relevant department. We have a comprehensive understanding of the financial situation of all departments in the company, and as such, we have earned the complete trust of the management team.
The reason why I chose the company
and what it's like to work here
I was working in Mie at my previous job, but due to personal reasons I needed to move to Osaka, so I began looking for a new job. My first impression was, "They're doing an interesting business." They make aircraft parts, industrial heat exchangers, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. All of these are essential to society. I was intrigued by the company's future prospects and stability. The interview went smoothly from start to finish, and I had a good impression of the employees, so I decided to join without hesitation. I've heard that there are companies where the kindest employees only appear during the interview, but there's no need to worry about that here. Everyone there was friendly, and I was able to get used to the job quickly.
The good points of the company
We have a system called "improvement proposals" where we propose and implement improvements to the company or its operations. If a proposal is adopted, such as one to improve the quality of work or the environment or to reduce the amount of work required, the president will recognize the proposal and give a cash gift. Even a small proposal is fine. One senior colleague suggested moving the phone, which was originally placed on the right side of the desk, to the left side so that it would be easier to pick up the receiver, and his proposal was accepted. Our company does not have a culture where everything is decided by those in higher positions. We have a culture where everyone can freely express their ideas, regardless of position or length of time at the company, and employees can freely demonstrate their abilities.
