Our company is currently renewing the business systems used by our manufacturing divisions. I am responsible for system development in the ozone generator area of the ICT business division. Ozone generators are also used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and our company designs and manufactures them to order. Due to the complex production process, designing system functions is not easy. We need to ensure that the system is easy to use for on-site personnel and allows for quick extraction and utilization of data stored in the system. I frequently speak with managers on-site and in the business divisions, and design based on the company's data utilization policy. The systems I design drive business and advance it. I approach my work with this future in mind.
Job satisfaction
At the interview when I joined the company, a director explained to me that "strengthening the IT infrastructure is essential for future business growth," and I decided to join the company because I felt that "developing systems for the business divisions at Sumitomo Precision Industries is connected to creating the future of the company. It is interesting to be able to shape a system with high expectations from scratch with my own hands. Of course, there are difficulties that come with creating a system from scratch. The presence of my seniors and supervisors who support me at such times is also a source of motivation. Before I get into trouble, they quickly come to my side and give me advice. There are also people who encourage me to take on new challenges, saying, "It's okay to make mistakes. I feel very fortunate to be able to work in an environment where there are so many people who care about their fellow workers.
Difficulty of the job
We can't create a good system without a deep understanding of the business. However, when I joined the company, I had little knowledge of the business I was in charge of, and I knew nothing about manufacturing business processes. As a result, I overly considered system functions, only to be told, "This won't do," and my idea was sent back to square one. When I was struggling with this, my boss gave me some advice: "The key to successful system implementation is to love the business more than anyone else." Since then, I have actively visited the site to observe the manufacturing process and listened more intently than ever to the voices of the people working there. It is difficult to know every detail of the business and operations, and to gain a deep understanding of products and their manufacturing processes that you don't normally see, but I find it enjoyable to discover new things every day.
The reason why I chose the company and what it's like to work here
I chose our company because I could be involved in system development from scratch. Also, the interviewers were very easy to talk to and I could sense their kindness. My wish came true, and shortly after joining the company I was given the position of leading system development in the Ozone Division. I was surprised and happy at the same time. The kindness I felt before joining the company is still there. After joining the company, a senior colleague invited me to play golf. Actually, I had never played golf before, but I got hooked and now I look forward to going golfing with my coworkers. I am surrounded by people who treat me equally, and I feel that people are even more kind than before I joined the company.
The good points of the company
One thing we can be proud of at our company is that there are no "walls." There are no barriers between different divisions, departments, or positions, and you can have a conversation with anyone on an equal footing. For example, when company members go golfing, executives sometimes join in. While playing a round together, we can interact with each other regardless of position, and we even end up talking about things like, "Let's all go to Koshien next time." Because of this environment, I think it's also an environment where you can talk about what you want to do and what you're good at at work, and you'll be listened to. I think this is the perfect company for people who want to take on new challenges and utilize their strengths.
