Awards will be given to innovative designs that accelerate the commercialization of MEMS, with the winner receiving free foundry services. The awards ceremony will be held at PiezoMEMS 2025 in Japan in November 2025.
MEMS Infinity, the MEMS foundry division of Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd. (SPP), today announced the launch of the international MEMS design contest, "MEMS Infinity Challenge." The contest will recognize innovative and commercially viable MEMS device designs, with an award ceremony to be held at the international workshop "PiezoMEMS 2025" to be held in Himeji, Japan in November 2025.
All submissions will be subject to strict judging by a judging committee composed of experts from industry and academia. The winner of the Grand Prize will receive free manufacturing services at MEMS Infinity's foundry, enabling consistent manufacturing support from prototype to mass production scale.
Additionally, the second and third place winners will receive either poly-PZT deposition by MEMS Infinity or silicon DRIE processing free of charge.
"We are pleased to welcome the opportunity to MEMS Infinity to further strengthen our partnership with NI," said Takeshi Takemoto, General Manager of MEMS Infinity.
"MEMS is a core technology for many smart devices that are indispensable in our daily lives. Realizing practical application and mass production of these technologies requires advanced design and manufacturing know-how, and this is precisely the strength of MEMS Infinity. We are pleased to be able to directly support the challenges of design engineers with excellent ideas through this contest. We also look forward to collaborating with the academic judging committee, including Professor Kensuke Kanda, co-chair of PiezoMEMS 2025."
About the screening system
The first selection committee includes Dr. Hiroshi Miyajima (Fellow), Takeshi Takemoto (General Manager/Co-chair of PiezoMEMS 2025), Gen Matsuoka (Deputy Director), and Dr. Mario Kiuchi (Manager of the Design and Consulting Group) from MEMS Infinity.
The second and final judging committee consists of Professor Kensuke Kanda of the University of Hyogo (Co-chair of PiezoMEMS 2025), Professor Isaku Kamino of Kobe University, Associate Professor Takeshi Yoshimura of Osaka Municipal University, and Professor Shinya Yoshida of Shibaura Institute of Technology.
MEMS Infinity Challenge Schedule
The first submission deadline for the MEMS Infinity Challenge is scheduled for July 25, 2025, at 11:59 a.m. (UTC). The evaluation period will run from August to October, and the award ceremony will be held at the PiezoMEMS Workshop in Himeji, Japan.
